Primary Responsibilities & Knowledge

  • Helps to develop and guide the strategy around how Brokerage leverages internal and external data

  • Works with underwriting leaders to identify information that provides insight into their business and how to best access and leverage it

  • Coordinates efforts across Brokerage, E&S/Specialty, and Nationwide to drive desired outcomes

  • Supports initiatives within broker management, marketing visits, and other key processes

  • Leverages data from standardized reporting systems and/or proprietary data sets to perform ad hoc data analysis

  • Creates executive-facing reports and analyses

  • Possesses advanced data analysis skills, including MS Excel and MS Access (Tableau a plus)

  • Understands Nationwide E&S/Specialty organizational structure, information systems, and IT application support model

  • Represents Brokerage on IT standing teams and other cross-functional teams as necessary

  • Works with underwriters and assistants to monitor and ensure the data quality of in-force Brokerage Property policies

  • May serve as SME for Brokerage UW Platform project

JOB SUMMARYServes as the top consultant responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of company resources for high impact short term projects. Manages the most complex business projects to achieve desired business objectives. Identifies and develops business process mapping with regard to data quality/integrity. Recommends, implements, and manages policies and procedures for existing and new business processes. Manages business administration functions that support the business needs of the area.

RELATIONSHIPReports to Director/AVP. The primary function of this role is not direct people leadership; however, the incumbent may manage associates that report directly or indirectly to this position.


  • Manages high impact projects that affect the financial, employee, or public relations posture of the organization. These projects are critical to achieving desired business objectives. Coordinates and prioritizes all aspects of projects, including planning, communication, execution and completion.

  • Working independently, manages large and/or complex internal projects and/or provides multi-disciplinary consulting services to business groups.

  • Develops and controls time lines, including regularly re-assessing risks, throughout project life. Revises project plans on an on-going basis to maintain alignment with other projects and the business strategy.

  • Synchronizes business/systems unit resources to log issues, designs processes and implements solutions. Maintains awareness of customer and systems requirements and conforms to those requirements.

  • Responsible for internal and external resource management, budgeting and cost containment.

  • Manages business process mapping with respect to correcting data quality/integrity issues.

  • Develops, manages and implements strategic business processes that support business requirements.

  • Recommends and implements policies and procedures for new business processes and manages these processes upon completion of the project. Communicates process changes to impacted business units.

  • May be responsible for the management of associates including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions. Provides ideas and criteria for establishing and meeting ePMP objectives for area of supervision.

  • Pursues continuous self-development in management techniques, project leadership, applied and conceptual technology and business/product environment.

  • Recognized as an expert across the organization for the development and implementation of project plans to effectively manage the most complex business projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: Undergraduate degree required with studies in business, mathematics or related field preferred. Graduate degree also strongly preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Project Management Certification is strongly preferred.

Experience: Ten or more years of work experience in project management, preferably in the insurance, investment or financial services industry. Managerial experience, including: facilitation, negotiation, delegation, mentoring, etc preferred. Business process mapping experience preferred.

Knowledge: Must have expert level understanding of project management concepts and techniques; working knowledge of business terminology; business systems and data processing policies, practices and procedures. Develops advanced concepts, techniques, and standards. Develops new applications based on professional principles and theories. Knowledge of business-related systems concepts and requirements preferred.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent relationship building skills. Exceptional project management skills such as organization and planning, interaction, leadership and motivational techniques. Strong negotiation skills and data quality/integrity problem solving skills. Administrative ability to plan, coordinate and assess the work of others, and strong personnel management skills in order to train, develop and motivate staff. Decision making skills for problem identification and selection of alternatives. Oral and written communication skills at all levels for technical personnel and customer contact. Technical report preparation and formal presentation skills. Operates effectively in an environment of deadlines and high workloads. Adjusts schedule or work hours to meet changes in priorities.
