Nationwide SVP, Marketing - Financial Srvcs in Columbus, Ohio


Role Summary

Responsible for developing and implementing business and marketing strategies for Nationwide's financial products and distribution channels that deliver profitable growth. Works closely with the Financial business unit President, business segment and distribution leaders and direct reports to ensure marketing strategies and plans will achieve business goals in a coordinated and efficient manner. This individual must represent Nationwide's financial products to multiple cross-enterprise groups to ensure interests and capabilities are represented and utilized for the greater benefit of the enterprise. Advocates and promotes a customer-centric mindset and leverages insights and analytics to drive strategic marketing planning and execution. Ensures all financial marketing is aligned to and helps build the enterprise brand. Leads the team and partners with centers of excellence to build strategic marketing capabilities for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Business and Marketing Leadership- As a member of the business leadership team, provides target audience insights and opportunities to inform business strategies. Develops national and business segment level marketing strategies including target segments, value propositions, content, messages and promotions to increase profitable sales. Allocates resources across marketing programs based on business strategies and goals and marketing performance.

  • Brand Management - Ensures financial marketing strategies align to and help build a stronger enterprise brand. Provides input into enterprise level brand strategies and programs.

  • Solutions Development - Leads the team in the opportunity identification, ideation & concept testing phases of the solutions development process and ensures the sum of the business segment efforts deliver business results. Key elements include situational assessments, target market definitions, new opportunity identification & evaluation, business & communications, concept & positioning development, effectiveness measures and trend analysis.

  • Experience Management - Delivers and advocates an integrated viewpoint of the customer based on customer data and analytics and recommends investments to deliver a superior target segment experience.

  • Continuous Improvement - Leverages market research, data and marketing metrics to instill a disciplined decision-making approach continuously improving plans and initiatives at all phases of execution.

  • People and Organization Development - Builds a world class marketing organization through the management of talent, process improvement and technical expertise. Increases marketing visibility and relationships across the enterprise. Increases marketing involvement and partnership with Product Development and Sales leveraging marketplace understanding. Helps focus efforts on high growth opportunities and drives accelerated development and launch.

Typical Skills and Experiences


Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field and Master’s degree preferred. Requires series 6 and 26 within 6 months of hire.


20+ years of marketing experience, preferably in marketing driven organizations. Financial services experience a plus. Experience leading large marketing organizations including talent management, process definition and improvement. Demonstrates ability to translate business issues into marketing solutions. Proven success working in a highly matrixed organization with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively across various work groups. Effectively leads organizations in an environment of change and ambiguity while maintaining a highly engaged workforce. Strong leadership capabilities, demonstrated success in strategic planning and problem solving. Excellent relationship building skills and ability to build and maintain a high level of client trust and confidence. Ability to demonstrate high impact communications and effectively influence peer business partners and senior leaders. Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experience may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Executive Leader for Marketing.

Job Conditions

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
